Physical Exams Q&A

Why are routine physical exams so important?

Routine physical exams are the cornerstone of preventive health. These visits allow Dr. Kewalramani to perform an overall assessment of your health and wellness. The data collected during your physical exams helps her monitor your health and manage your health problems.

Physicals are targeted screenings for your age and sex, that are necessary to prevent and manage medical problems. The results of blood testing and other screening tools can reveal signs of disease in the early stages and early intervention is often the most effective way to manage disease.

What should I expect during a physical exam?

The initial part of your visit includes some routine assessments of your health such as:

  • Heart rate
  • Height and weight
  • Body Mass Index
  • Blood pressure
  • Respiratory rate
  • Heart and Lung exam
  • Skin condition

If needed, in-office electrocardiograms (EKGs) are also available.

Physical exams are also an excellent opportunity to discuss your health and wellness goals. Dr. Kewalramani can use that information to create customized lifestyle management recommendations to help you feel and function your best every day.

How can I prepare for my physical exam?

Preparation is a great way to make the most of your routine physical exam. Begin by compiling a written record of any medications you’re currently taking. Take a few moments to get information about your family health history. You’ll also be asked about your current lifestyle, including activity levels, diet, sleep habits, and stress levels. It is best to fast for 8–10 hours prior to your physical, so bloodwork drawn in our office is accurate.

Please share the details of any medical conditions you have received treatment for. If you have concerns about your chronic medical problems, be sure to bring those up during your visit.

Dr. Kewalramani is a firm believer in the holistic nature of health and wellness. She recognizes ways that a healthy diet and physical fitness is linked to your emotional and mental health, as well your relationship with friends, family, and the community.
